MAKING
GRASS CASTLES!
GRASS IS GROWING OVER SAND AT GRANGE OVER SANDS
At Grange over Sands, on Cumbrian coast, grass has grown in patches
all over the sand wrecking the beach. The Spartina Anglica grass is
causing more trouble than its worth. It has been growing over the last
couple of years because of raising amounts of mud. Richard Scott a plant
ecologist says the best thing to do would let nature take its course.
Local people are less than happy. People used to travel miles to walk
on the beautiful beach and now all they've got is a horrible salt marsh.
The only way to get rid of it would be to remove the grass and be left
with a wide space of mud and small pools of water ."Surely a salt marsh
is better than that,"quotes Jade from Ambleside CE Primary School. (By
Jade)

DAIRY FARMERS SAY "STOP MILKING US!"
Cumbrian farmers protest against low prices.
The farmers went on march to Westminister
to say how unhappy they were with milk prices. They get 7p for each
pint they sell but it costs them 11p to produce. Farmers will have to
give up. It is a double blow to Cumbrian farmers who already make a
loss with sheep. (By Lori and Philippa)

CROSSING MAKE ROADS SAFE FOR CHILDREN.
Two
new crossings to are going to be built in Ambleside to make the roads
safer. The traffic is terrible during the summer months. The two crossings
will be at either end of Compston Road.
WATCH
THE SPEED LIMIT!
A ten mile
per hour speed limit will come into force on Lake Windermere in 5 years.
Powerboats and Waterskiers will be affected. Many local businesses may
face trouble. Especially those that are work beside the Lake. |
