THE SUFFIX / PREFIX MACHINE

"THE SUPERSPELLER"

Try to make up as many real words as you can by choosing parts from the menus below.

What is a prefix?

A prefix is a word or part of a word that you put "in front" of another word to create a new word or change it's meaning. E.g: Dis, Pre, etc.

What is a suffix?

A suffix is a word or part of a word that you put "at the end" of another word to create a new word or change it's meaning. E.g: ing, end, and s.

Points to note!

Some words that go in the middle might need different spellings. E.g. If a word ends in an e, it loses the e if the suffix starts with a vowel.

Things to do in class:

Play this game together. Make up your own game using pieces of paper in Literacy Hour. Make a list of more suffixes and prefixes and e-mail them to us! SuperSpellers@ambleside.schoolzone.co.uk
