Lake District woodland

Despite intensive commercial planting of conifers in certain parts of the Lake District National Park, there still remains many areas of broadleaved woodland. Especially in the Ambleside area.

Oak, Chestnut, Beech, Maple and Silver Birch are common. You may also discover willow in abundance, a reminder of the Lake District's long history of charcoal burning and gunpowder manufacture.
