Walls & Buildings

This is a good example of a Lake District farm building.

The thick walls are made from local stone and they are often constructed without cement or mortar.

A slate roof provide long lasting and effective protection against the harsh weather.

Dry stone walls are a common feature, the walls have stood for hundreds of years and reach right from the valley bottoms to the tops of the fells.

Dry stone walling is a very skilled job and the construction of a wall is not as easy as it looks.
