Ambleside C.E. Primary School has a rich
musical life which was noted as one of the strengths of the school by
OFSTED inspectors. Not only do many children play, but several of the
staff are working musicians in their spare time! (What spare time?)
An orchestra plays each day for assembly,
featuring, recorders, flutes and guitars. Most mornings they do not
know the songs they will be playing and have to rely on their sight
reading!
Recorders are taught from the infants and
there is a busy Choir who are becoming quite seasoned performers due
to their gruelling schedule of public and private appearances.
Children also have the opportunity to play
and learn clarinet and and other woodwind in school from visiting
teachers. This service will be expanded in the future to include
Brass and Strings.
One of the recent musical highlights was a
performance of the school song, "This Land
is our home," at the N.E.C. in Birmingham
which was written by Mrs Loynes, our year 3 teacher with her class.
Children from Year 4 & 5 sang the song, which features lyrics
describing the history and landscape of our local area from Roman
times to the present day.
THE GUIDES RACE
