Ambleside's rivers and lakes
Pictures and facts by Grasmere Class
Windermere Lake is very special to us. It
is the biggest lake in the whole of England. Lots of people
come to visit the lake. Especially in summer. There are many
different kinds of boat on the lake, from rowing boats to
pleasure cruises. The lake is ten miles long. The three main
stopping places are Bowness Bay, Waterhead in Ambleside and
Lakeside near Newby Bridge.
There are several important rivers and
streams in the Ambleside area. The Stock Ghyll goes through
the middle of Ambleside and has several water wheels and a
small house built on a bridge over it. It meets the River
Rothay near our school.
