Welcome to LOGO@AMBLEWEB, Ambleside C.E. Primary School's special section devoted to the greatest educational IT program devised - LOGO. The main areas of the LOGO@Ambleweb section can be reached by using the coloured Navigation table at the top and bottom of each page.

LOGO@Ambleweb offers a facility for programs and procedures created with MSW LOGO or LOGOSPIN to be downloaded, in order to create a valuable web based resource.

Although widely regarded as a purely educational program, LOGO is actually a version of the programming language LISP, which is used in artificial intelligence programming. To many users in school, LOGO offers a relatively simple way of introducing angles and distances to children with it's well known "turtle graphics" and it is often used to teach the fundamentals of computer programming and control through the creation of procedures and repeated commands.

Beyond the obvious need to fulfil the requirements of the new QCA IT guidelines, LOGO offers teachers prepared to explore it's potential fully, an unrivalled and extremely powerful "tool" with which to develop children's knowlege in Control Technology, Maths, Language, Geography, Art, and even Music!

Many of the examples in this section are based on MSW LOGO, a completely free but extremely powerful version of LOGO. The shareware program LOGOSPIN (PC/Windows only ) is also available to download from this site, since it is unique among LOGO programs in having simple commands to animate and spin pictures created with LOGO - The potential of this to stimulate children is obvious!

Why MSW LOGO?

MSW LOGO is a very powerful version of LOGO, ideal for use in school from KS2. Unlike some educational LOGO programs, it does not rely on masses of icons or buttons to simplify the creation of images and patterns and the selection of colours. MSW LOGO encourages the children to generate effective procedures themselves for even the simplest of shapes. This level of rigour and problem solving is essential if children are to become confident and skilled programmers and gain true satisfaction from their efforts.

Unlike all other LOGO programs, MSW LOGO is very well supported on the Internet and because it is free it can be easily copied and distributed to children in school who have computers at home. Versions for both PC and Apple MAC are available.

Where can I get MSW LOGO?

By clicking on the following link, you will be taken to the MSW Homepage on the Internet. You can choose the version of MSW LOGO to download from there. If you are using Windows 95 or 98, ensure you download and install the 32bit version, since it offers a few extra features. (If you are not sure what all that meant ask a computer savvy friend or parent to help!)
