USING LEGO TO EXPLORE MECHANISMS & STRUCTURES
We have been looking at gears and pulleys in Year 4. We have also investigated the way in which triangles can be used to create strong structures.
We had an opportunity to show our teacher how much we had remembered when we got to design and make our own machines. How well have we done?

"We used a chain instead
of a rubber band on our model"
"I like our triangles. They are very strong."

"We wanted it to all work
when it was pushed along but we ran out of time!"

"We made some axles spin
the other way by crossing the rubber band pulley."

"We used the axles to hold
the bottom of the triangles."

"We made a pneumatic press
while the others were making their machines"
"If you put your finger in it and pump it very fast you get marks all
over your fingers!"
"Don't try that with a real Pneumatic Press! - Mr Robinson"
PS. How to take a digital picture with a nice coloured background
Put your model on a big piece of card and get a friend to curl the end of the card up behind the model to create a background. This is exactly how real photographers do it in a photography studio.
