INTERACTIVE SCIENCE SIMULATIONS:
AFRICA: (213K - allow 1- 2 mins. to download)
How long can you survive in the wilds of Africa in this amazing 2 player simulation? As a pair of top predators, seek out your prey and return the food to the pride. Designed by Bethan and Melanie in Year 6.
(The graphics only took a few minutes but programming herding behaviour and a dynamic environment took several playtimes and after school club sessions!)

VIDEO GAMES:

TREASURE ISLAND: - Return of Rustybeard!: (144K)
Run around the island collecting Rustybeard's treasure while avoiding bombing ships. Collect a Magic Jewel and earn an extra life!

By Gary and Jamie in Year 6

RODENT RACER: (249K - allow 1-2 mins. to download)
Control Year 5's Guinea pigs, Cookie and Nickie, in this totally awesome two player food hunt by Jennifer and Jade in Year 5! - Use you "Super Rodent Power®" wisely! (Many children have contributed elements to various versions of this game including; laser wielding mutant rodents - Mrs Bagot prefers this version!... Rodent Racer II - "The Mutants".... coming soon!)

3D BLASTEROIDS: (390K - allow 1-2 mins. to download)
An addictive two player space shoot 'em up made by children in Year 6. As well as realistically moving asteroids, the game features alien spacecraft following vector paths and 3D laser effects. Cool.

RACERZ...: (308K - allow 1-2 min.s to download)
Peter is now in Year 7 at a Kendal school but comes back to the Ambleside Computer Club to enthuse and help a new generation of Cyberkids! His racing game is still under development, but is all his own work. Expect amazing things soon! (Check out the robot racer!)

SPACE FORT: (345K - allow 1-2 mins. to download)
Use all your piloting skills to destroy the shields of the automated cannon avoiding the deadly plasma blasts and homing missiles. (More elements made for a greater programming challenge)

ROX: (257K - allow 1 -2 mins. to download)
It is your mission to clear the space transport routes of rogue asteroids in our 3D enhanced version of a classic game. (We used the programming of this to simulate 'real world' behaviours such as collisions and motion.)

Bug reports, improvements, ideas for other games.

At Ambleside, we use computer simulations to model 'real world' events that could not be properly simulated in a classroom situation. All the activities in 'The Arcade' are much more than games - they are a complex series of interactions and conditions programmed and managed by the children. Not only does this fulfil many ICT curriculum targets for control and multimedia but it also presents children with far more opprtunities to explore processes in science and technology. The potential is virtually unlimited, especially since the free "Games Factory" Software is so easy to use.
