S IS FOR STOCK GHYLL

Stock Ghyll is the river that flows through Ambleside.

The valley has lots of trees and it used to have water mills.

Some little tributaries join together to make Stock Ghyll

It flows from Kirkstone Pass down a steep valley with waterfalls

and into the Rothay River. The word ghyll is used in the Lake District

to describe a small stream or river.(see V is for Vikings!)
