R IS FOR ROTHAY
The River Rothay comes down past Ambleside from Rydal before coming into Lake Windermere. It flows under Loughrigg. Near where the Rothay joins Lake Windermere there is a place that was a Roman fort called Galava. There are some stepping stones across the river just north of Ambleside and they lead into a field where you can sit.
