C IS FOR CHURCH
The church was built between 1850 and 1854.
The architect was Sir George Gilbert Scott.
The church is made out of slate and it is built on a rock.
Unlike other lakeland churches it has a spire, which is made out of sandstone.
It is 180 feet from the ground to the top of the spire and the church is one
of the first things you see when you come in to Ambleside.
In the church are many beautiful stained glass windows
and at the back is a huge mural of the local rushbearing festival.
This was painted by art students from London when
they were evacuated here during the war.
