B is for Bridgehouse
The Bridge House was built in the sixteenth century. It was part of Ambleside Hall estate and was used to store apples and as a bridge over the beck.It was built of flagged roof and slates.In 1843 a man called Charity Rigg lived here with his wife and six children ! He made chairs and baskets .
In 1905 the downstairs room was used as a cobblers shop and the upstairs room as his pigeon loft . Later it became a gift shop . In 1926 it was handed over to the National Trust to be looked after evermore.
The Bridge House is one of the most famous buildings in the Lake District.
